humdrumming

in light of the sweet sustenance i find in the corners of your mouth
i must abdicate.
i can't move you.
and i would crumble if you pushed me away.
still when you look at me
then the world falls apart
and the horizon sinks to the ocean,
to be remembered
and mythologized.
your eyes follow the outline of mine:
almond shaped, childish, corners raised slightly up, eyelashes burn...
mephistopheles waits in them. reclined;
ready to blow out his candle and move forward

the young man asks me:
"do you ever think about yourself?"
sometimes.
but it reminds me of you.
